ReplyDeleteAlthough it seems like a bad idea in theory, Hamilton's idea of adding more national debt was significant. It would add all the states debt into one whole national debt. This would allow the US to pay it back quicker, saving us money, and let money flow through the colonies as a result (as now they didn't owe anything). However, this wasn't fair to the south because they already paid off their debt individually, so they didn't want to pay more. Eventually the south agreed after compromising that the capital would be moved to Washington DC (once made). Other counties would see that the US is reliable and pays back their debts so they invested in American businesses, which in a long run helps us as a new nation.
